Welcome to the Hôtel de France and Relais du Roy restaurant. A warm, friendly, romantic, charming, unique, quirky, fun and funky place described by Mel Smith as "A Place of Sleep and Dreams..."
Dating back to 1578, the Hôtel de France and Relais du Roy restaurant remain structurally unchanged with huge original coaching doors and cobble-stoned courtyard still bearing testimony to the era when horse drawn carriages were the only means of long distance travel.
Now a Grade 1 listed building, the oldest and original Coaching Inn in Montreuil-sur-Mer has been lovingly restored by owner hosts Janie and Patrick Harpur.
Regular, late night "hat" parties in the bar are order of the day, while live bands and live music evenings are an integral part of the entertainment.
Eminent visitors to the Hôtel de France and Relais du Roy include Napoleon Bonaparte, Victor Hugo, Lawrence Sterne, Field Marshall Douglas Haig, Gerard Depardieu, Mel Smith, Midge Ure and Lester Piggott ... and a friendly ghost. Why not come and add your name to the list?

"crammed with styles and designs of every century....the effect is stunning....wonderfully over the top, womb-like friendly....a plethora of colours"
