Les Miserables

January

February
Valentine's Day (14th). Special dinner at Hôtel and in the restaurant, Le Relais du Roy.

Travelling Les Miserables play featuring Jean Valjean's arrival at the Hôtel de France.
Festival of music (3rd weekend of June every year).

July
Bastille Day celebrations (14th July). Town is pedestrianised with an antiques festival, biggest in the area. Fireworks display on the main square from 22h00 and in the fortified Citadelle on the rampart walls of the city.

Tour de France.
Annually every year the last weekend in July and the first weekend in August (Friday/ Saturday/Sunday/Monday) is the Les Miserables Son et Lumiere in the Citadel on the rampart walls. The show starts at 22h30 and runs to 24h15.

August
First weekend in August (Thursday/Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon) - Son et Lumiere "Les Miserables" in the Citadelle (booking essential).

September
Local Supermarket wine sales.
The Painters’ Festival. The town throngs with painters and artists of all nationalities. It culminates in an auction at the end of the day.

October
Annual Montreuil-sur-Mer Soup Festival held in the citadel.

Xmas Dinner Party. Full traditional Xmas Dinner in the banquet hall.
Gastronomique French Christmas meal in Le Relais du Roy on Christmas Eve.

New Year
Special Restaurant New Years Eve Dinner.
Enjoy the best of both worlds with dinner guests from both Hôtel and restaurant meeting in the courtyard for fireworks displays and to welcome in the New Year twice with the one hour time difference.

Herring run. Race using local horse-drawn carriages emulating the original race to get the season's first herrings from Boulogne to Paris
Golf
The local hunt or "Cheese" includes traditional eating offered at the "Tete de Veau" accompanied by strong alcohol (calvados – apple brandy). A choice is available between Armagnacs, pastis, whiskies or Normandie ciders accompanied by local banter.

Sights
The Battle of Agincourt. There is a museum on the site and the battle is re-enacted regularly by the English owner of the museum
Abbaye de Valloires (The Abbeys of Valloires) - a fully restored abbey with glorious gardens

Montreuil Cathedral - a medieval wonder

Montreuil's local auction house is open most days of the week with the auctions being held every Saturday after lunch.
